Record Title :  NONRESIDENT VIOLATOR COMPACT CASES

Record Description :  In accordance with sections 4510.71 and 4510.72 of the Ohio Revised Code, any Ohio licensed driver who is issued a citation for a traffic violation from another state and does not comply with the requirements of the citation (pay the ticket), the court from that state will forward a copy of the ticket and the persons driver license to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Driver License Division for processing. The Bureau will notify this person, in writing, stating that the delinquent fine must be paid to the out of state court within twenty (20) days or he/she will be placed under suspension. If the person does not comply, the Bureau will then suspend their driving privileges. There are forty (40) states covered under the "Nonresident Violator Compact Law of 1977". Ohio began participating January 1985. THE PERSON WILL REMAIN SUSPENDED UNTIL WE ARE IN RECEIPT OF PAYMENT RECEIPT AND REINSTATEMENT FEE.

All hard copy cases closed before March 31, 1990, will be retained at agency storage for three years, then destroyed. Original hard copy records generated after April 2, 1990 will be microfilmed or scanned and then destroyed. NOTE: As quoted under section 4510.71 of the Ohio Revised Code, a person is placed under suspension until the traffic citation and license reinstatement fee have been paid, then driving privileges are reinstated. Effective April 2, 1990 all active cases generated before or after this date will be on microfilm/microfiche; any closed cases generated after this date will be on film. Microfilm retained for three years after case is closed. Microform Shred
Non-resident violator cases are stored on the Optic Image System until all requirements are met and then stored an additional three years. Electronic Delete
