Record Description : The Ohio Department of Health, Divisions of Sanitation and Plumbing are required by law (Section 3701.19, 3701.20 of the Ohio Revised Code) to approve construction plans for the disposal of sewage and industrial waste; and to exercise general supervision of the disposal of waste. In compliance with the above stated sections of the Ohio Revised Code, the Divisions of Plumbing and Sanitation maintain construction blueprints on all facilities, approved by the Ohio Department of Health, involving the disposal of sewage and industrial waste. In order to adequately exercise general supervision over the sanitary disposal of sewage and waste, it is necessary to periodically inspect these facilities thereby requiring the continued retention of construction blueprints. The construction blueprints and drawings are referenced frequently for a period of two years during which time, construction of the facility is ongoing, after the construction of the facility is completed, construction blueprints are needed on an infrequent basis when general facility inspections are being conducted. To adequaetely maintain the large volume of construction plans approved each year, the Ohio Department of Health intends to microfilm all approved plans and retain the microfilm in its immediate office area for two (2) years, then transfer the microfilm to the State Records Center for the duration of the approved retention period.
