Record Description : Records have historical value documenting significant aspects of the operations of the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission (MLK Commission), such as the annual commemorative celebration and awards, calendar, oratorical contest, etc., all of which affects Ohio citizens as a statewide advocate of Dr. King's principles of nonviolence. The MLK Commission strives to carry out Dr. King's dream of service to others throughout the entire year through various events, programs, etc. They are the collective program memory of the MLK Commission and Department of Administrative Services who provides administrative support to the MLK Commission. The files will be useful for research concerning the history of the MLK Commission and its work for Ohio. Records also have historical value if they contain significant information about Dr. King, award winner, and oratorical contest participants. They are often used to conduct research into particular topics.
