Retention Period Retention Justification Media Code Method of Disposal
Uniform record retention requirements for federal awards, as determined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, are set forth in the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations at 2 CFR 200.334 and are generally three years from a specified date. Refer to 2 CFR 200.334 to determine the commencement of the 3-year period for each type of record. Some federal programs mandate retention requirements specific to the program. Statutory and regulatory provisions applicable to specific programs take precedence over the uniform record retention requirements. Unknown Other
HOME INVESTMENT PARTNERSHIP (HOME): retention governed by 24 CFR 91.508(c). Records for each FY must be retained for the most recent 5-year period, except homeownership project records must be retained 5 years after project completion date & written agreements must be retained 5 years after agreement ends. For commencement of the 5-year retention period for rental housing projects, tenant-based rental assistance projects, & displacements and acquisition see 24 CFR 91.508(c). If litigation, claim, negotiation, audit, monitoring, inspection or other action has commenced before record retention period ends records must be retained for the later of completion of the action & resolution of issues or the end of required period. ALL OTHER PROGRAMS: Retain 3 years from date of submission of final expenditure report or, for awards renewed quarterly or annually, from date of submission of quarterly/annual financial report as reported to the Federal awarding agency or pass-through entity.
