Background check results are noted as having been received/reviewed via a checkmark in the application file. Retain FBI and BCII results 12 months after receipt in the office, then destroy, unless the results require to referral to enforcement, in which case the papers are retained according to enforcement file retention schedules. |
By policy, background check data needs to be reasonably current, and results more than one year old are considered too old to be relied upon. Also, the subject of the background check is entitled to access the results, and allowing 12 months to request access is deemed sufficient. By Board policy a background check is only valid for one year, so an applicant would need to repeat the background check if not licensed within a year of the first background check. |
