Record Description : Individuals seeking to renew a certificate to practice as a First Responder or EMT, may challenge an examination approved by the State Board of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in lieu of completing continuing education requirements. (Provided for in O.R.C. 4765.30). The examination approved for each level is provided by the National Registry of EMTs. Answer documents are graded by the NREMTs with exam results reported to the Division of EMS. First Responders and EMTs whose certificate to practice has lapsed by request reinstatement of their certificate. If the certificate has been expired for less than three years, they may challenge an exam approved by the State Board of EMS at the appropriate level. If the certificate has been expired for more than three, but less than six years, they may challenge the exam following completion of remedial training approved by the board. The exams approved by the board for this purpose are provided by and graded by the NREMTs. Exam results are reported to the Division of EMS. Exam results include the name of the individual, mailing address, social security number, exam date, exam level, exam scores.
